The famous opening line of Adventure, also known as Colossal Cave Adventure or ADVENT. In other words, the very first adventure game of all time; the reason the “adventure” genre is so-called. Programmed by Will Crowther in 1975, Adventure set a new standard for video games. At a time when the video game arcade was entering its golden age with new developments such as Space Invaders being released, Adventure, programmed for the PDP-11 microcomputer, aimed to change the quick-to-play action based arcade image of games into a more immersive, literary experience.
